The clerk’s main mission is to lower the need for incarceration via delivering the court accurate and timely data, providing public-based supervision and therapeutic services with an emphasis on responsibility as well as public safety. About the Alachua County Government

County Demographics

Alachua County is a county within the northern central part of Florida. The population was 278,468 as of the 2020 US Census. Gainesville is the county seat as well as home to University of Florida ever since 1906, whenever its campus opened up with 106 pupils.

There were 247,336 people, 100,516 households, and 53,500 families living in the county as of the 2010 US Census. The county’s population density was 282.91/sq mi. Its racial makeup was 69.9 percent White, 20.3 percent Black or African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 5.4 percent Asian, 0.1 percent Pacific Islander, 1.7 percent were from other races, and 2.6 percent was from 2 or more races. 8.4 percent of the county’s population were Hispanic or Latino from any race.

Out of the 100,516 households, 22.0 percent had kids under the age of 18, 36.4 percent had a married husband and wife couple, 4.0 percent included a male head of house with no wife, 12.8 percent had a female head of household with no husband, and 46.8 percent were non-families. 24.8 percent of all the households had one or more kids under the age of 18, and 19.6 percent had at least one person 65 years of age or older. The median size of households was 2.32 and the median family size was 2.91.
