The Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads, Florida, consists of two units: the East Unit and the West Unit. Below is information on both units of the facility.

Apalachee Correctional Institution, East Unit

The East Unit is capable of housing approximately 1,300 inmates. It is a level-V facility that houses medium-custody, closed-custody, and minimum- custody inmates. The prison encourages inmates to participate in a variety of vocational, education, and treatment programs that it offers. These programs are designed to aid in the inmate’s rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society upon release. As described in further detail below, inmates at the facility can earn a GED, learn to read, take basic adult education classes, and more while incarcerated.

Apalachee Correctional Institution, West Unit

The West Unit is a level-IV facility that is capable of housing approximately 915 inmates. Inmates at the West Unit have custody levels of medium, closed, and minimum. This facility offers some inmates that opportunity to work in the community in a variety of community service positions. Like the East Unit, the West Unit offers a variety of programs to inmates. For example, inmates can take literacy courses, earn a GED, and more while incarcerated.

Apalachee Correctional Institution, East Unit and West Unit Visiting Hours

Those who wish to visit an inmate at either facility must complete and submit a visitation form, which is available here. Visitation at both units occurs on Saturdays and Sundays between the times of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Visitation registration starts at 8:15 on the day of visitation. Although visitation ends at 3:00 p.m., the facility will not process visitors after 2:00 p.m. In addition, visitors may arrive and park in designated spaces no earlier than 7:30 a.m.

Apalachee Correctional Institution, East Unit Directions

To get to the East Unit from I-10, take Exit 158 near Sneads and follow it for approximately seven miles until you reach US-90. Upon reaching US-90, turn right on US-90 and travel approximately two-and-a-half miles. The East Unit will be on the left. Next, take a left off of US-90 and proceed north on Apalachee Drive until you reach the East Unit.

Apalachee Correctional Institution, West Unit Directions

To get to the West Unit from I-10, take Exit 158 near Sneads and follow it for approximately seven miles until you reach US-90. Upon reaching US-90, turn right on US-90 and travel approximately two-and-a-half miles. Next, turn left to exit US-90 at the West Unit and proceed to the first road on the left on West Unit Drive.
