Dixie County Jail Visitation Hours

Male inmates at the Dixie County Jail can have visitors on either Saturday or Sunday from 9 AM to 11 AM. Female inmates at the facility can have visitors on Saturday or Sunday from 2 PM to 4 PM. Inmates may host up to four visitors per visit. Visitors must have proper ID and be on the inmate’s visitation list to be admitted for visitation.

Dixie County Sheriff

Sheriff Darby Butler graduated from Santa Fe College in 1993. He then went on to Lake City Community College and graduated in 1995. From there he attended Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy and graduated in 2002. He also attended Special Operations Group School and Federal Law Enforcement Trainings Centers.

Butler worked for the Florida Department of Corrections at the Cross City Correctional Institution from 1994 to 1996. He then went to work for the Taylor Correctional Institution, where he stayed until 2001. He then worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission from 2001 to 2020.

In 2002, he was awarded the Law Enforcement Academy Top Gun Award. He is also the recipient of the 2014 Award of Life Saving from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Dixie County was created in 1921. It was named Dixie because of its common reference to the southern part of the United States. Dixie County encompasses 864 square miles, of which 159 square miles are water.

The census of 2008 estimated that there were 14,957 people living in Dixie County, Florida. Since this time, the population has grown to 16,486 people. The population density in 2008 was twenty people per square mile, so it is only slightly higher now.

The census of 2008 found that the county was made up of 88.8% White people and 8.98% Black Americans. The remaining population is made up of Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic or Latino races.
