Bobby Schultz is the sheriff of Gilchrist County, Florida. Prior to obtaining the position, Sheriff Schultz held multiple ranks and positions with the Lancaster Correctional Institution, Chiefland Police Department, Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Eighth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, Dyn-Corp International, and Eighth Judicial Circuit Public Defenders Office.
About the County
The county was founded in 1925. It was named for Albert W. Gilchrist, who was the Governor of Florida from 1909 to 1913. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 355 square miles, of which 350 square miles is land and 5.6 square miles is water. It is the fourth smallest county in Florida by total area and the fifth smallest by land area.
To date, the county remains one of the smallest in the state. Agriculture remains the county’s largest economic stimuli, and the areas is known for its freshwater springs and rivers. The county is home to only a single red light, which is located at the intersection of US Highway 129 and State Route 26 in Trenton.
