The Highlands County Jail is a minimum-security, adult-only prison. The inmates housed at the facility can be pre-trial, pre-sentencing, male, female, or juveniles who were adjudicated as adults. Since the newest addition to the building in 2004, the Highlands County Jail has an inmate capacity of 512. They commit to operating with professionalism, respect, and efficiency to provide basic care and custodial services to the inmates.

Highlands County Jail Visitation Hours

Inmates at Highlands County Jail can have two 1 hour on-site visits and four 10-25 minute internet visits from friends and family per week. Visitation hours are from 7 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, but due to COVID-19 the capacity of visitors is currently capped at half. You must schedule at least a day in advance. Inmates are only allowed 2 visitors at a time.

While Sheriff Paul Blackman has only been serving as such for the past 5 years, he has been working in some capacity with the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office for the past 23 years. He has been a K-9 handler, a detective, captain of the Uniform Patrol Division, a road patrol sergeant, and more. He has a degree in applied organizational management and a master’s in Business Administration. Outside of his sheriff duties he is a part of the Sebring Noon Rotary Club and has a seat on the board of the United Way and the Big Brothers and Sisters.

Highlands County is located in central florida, approximately a 2-hour drive from Orlando. It was taken from part of DeSoto county in 1921 and is aptly named after the rolling countryside it houses. The county seat resides in Sebring. It has a land mileage of about 1,017 square miles.
