Visitation / Holmes County Inmate Search

The jail only allows immediate family members to visit inmates. Visitation happens Thursday through Sunday from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m., and it is organized by pod assignment. Check the sheriff’s office website here for the visitation schedule. You must bring a driver license and cannot bring your cell phone into the visitation. All visitors at the jail are subject to being searched during the visitation period. About the County / Holmes County Inmate Search

The county is located in the northwestern part of the state with its county seat being located in Bonifay. Created in 1848, the namesake of the county continues to be a point of contention. It might be named after Thomas J. Holmes who was the first English settler of the land, or it is named after an Indian chief Holmes who’s tribe settled the area in 1814. As of 2020, the county’s population was 19,653. This was divided into 7,137 households and 4,939 families. In addition, the racial makeup of the county during this period was 85.13% White, 6.16% African American, 3.8% mixed, 3.5% Hispanic, and 1.31% other. The average income of a household in the county was $27,923 and the per capita for the county was $14,135. About 19% of the population lived below the poverty line with a quarter of them being under 18 years old.
