The Lee County Jail is divided into three parts. The Lee County Jail is the central intake facility of all arrests within the county. It is a maximum security facility with 457 beds. The core facility is the main operating service for inmates. It’s a medium/maximum security facility with 1,216 beds, most of which are for female inmates. And the Community Program Unity is a minimum security facility with 336 beds and is meant to be a program to help inmates with reentry to society and rehabilitation from addiction.

Lee County Jail Visitation Hours

There are no on-site visitations allowed in any of the prison facilities. They are all done through a video monitor. Inmates are allowed 2 visitations a week, each one lasting up to an hour with a maximum of 2 approved visitors. All visits are conducted at the Ortiz site (2501 Ortiz Ave), and are open every day of the week from 5am-11pm.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has many layers to their responsibilities. Aside from overall law enforcement within the county, they operate the prisons and protect the courtrooms of the county. THey have about 1,600 sworn officers and support staff to help meet the protection and other needs of the residents of Lee County.

Lee County Sheriff

Sheriff Carmine Marceno has been serving as the elected sheriff since 2020. His previous law enforcement experience includes serving as Patrol Deputy and several special units. He joined the Lee County Sheriff Office in 2013 and quickly became a leader within the unit. He served as the Undersheriff, a member of the Command Staff, and a Captain and Executive Officer for Sheriff Mike Scott.

About Lee County, FL

Lee County is home of Fort Myers, which was built in 1850 during the Seminole Wars. This was during a time when Florida was still a territory and not yet a state. The Padilla family was one of the first families of Lee County and they still reside within its borders today.

Lee County was officially created as an independent portion of Florida in 1887, being taken from Monroe County and Fort Myers being named county seat. It was named after the well-known confederate general Robert E. Lee who served during the American Civil War.
