There are three primary detention facilities in Lee County. The downtown Lee County Jail is the central intake facility of all arrests within the county. It is a maximum security facility with 457 beds. The Core Facility is the main operating service for inmates. It’s a medium/maximum security facility with 1,216 beds, and it is the primary housing facility for female inmates. Jail Visitation Hours / Lee County Arrest Search
There are no on-site visitations allowed in any of the prison facilities. They are all done through a video monitor. Inmates are allowed two visits a week, with each one lasting up to an hour with a maximum of two approved visitors. All visits are conducted at 2501 Ortiz Ave. between 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. To schedule a visit with an inmate, click here. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has many responsibilities. Aside from overall law enforcement within the county, the office operates the prisons and protects the courtrooms of the county. About the County / Lee County Arrest Search
The county is home to Fort Myers, which was built in 1850 during the Seminole Wars. This was during a time when Florida was still a territory and not yet a state. The Padilla family was one of the first families of the county and they still reside within its borders today. The county was officially created as an independent portion of Florida in 1887, being taken from Monroe County and Fort Myers being named county seat. It was named after the well-known confederate general Robert E. Lee who served during the American Civil War. In addition, the county is home to three detention centers.
